Moonlight Bay
(1912)

Music: Percy Wenrich
Lyrics: Edward Madden
Arr: Ruth Randle & Merv Rowley, 2012

Music heard at an early age can be everlasting in its effect. Merv can vouch for this, having first heard Moonlight Bay (chorus only) as a child, on early radio in 1927. The music was already 15 years old at the time. The song, a favorite of Barbershop Quartets over the years, was one of a number of early 20th century songs used as titles of musical films made by Doris Day in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Merv first arranged this song in 1-3-5 tuning in 2002 (Love's Old Sweet Songs). Naturally, it was chorus only. It was not until a few months ago he discovered that the song, like so many others of this era, actually had verses as well!!! You do the math. We immediately decided to re-publish this song for the 1-3-5 site, this time including the verses. This posed quite a task because the original music was in a different key and provided only guitar chord symbols to hint at a chord accompaniment (many in minor keys) - an arranger's challenge. Ruth did an outstanding job in bringing you this 100-year old music as originally published! We hope you enjoy this oldie.
